Every misfortune is a fortune.

About This Quote

The phrase “every misfortune is a fortune” is a cliché and should not be taken at face value. The oldest known use of this expression was first attributed to the Roman poet Horace, who said it in his book “Epistles” (1st century BC). But other versions of the expression can be traced back much further than that. These versions show that there is no such thing as a misfortune that isn’t a fortune, and that no kind of good fortune is ever wasted.
